
Lead Inspector, Initial Course, 24 hours
This 3-day course is Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment accredited/approved. The course content includes:
background information on lead; uses of lead; health effects of lead; regulatory review pertaining to lead-based paint; roles and
responsibilities of lead-based paint inspector; lead-based paint, dust, soil and other inspection methodologies; building
construction and components related to lead-based paint; clearance standards and testing, interpretation of lead sampling
results; formulation and implementation of the final inspection report; record keeping; and an introduction to risk assessment
and lead hazard screen protocol. The course includes 8 hours of hands-on activities including inspection methods, sampling
methodologies, lab results interpretation, and inspection reporting. In addition to the course notebook, each attendee will receive
a copy of the 1997 HUD Guidelines for The evaluation and Control of Lead Based Paint Hazards in Housing and a Lead Reference Guide.
All Courses begin at 8:00am unless otherwise noted. Registration begins at 7:45.

Lead Inspector, Initial Course Cost: $450.00
Lead Risk Assessor Initial Course, 16 hours
Prerequisite - Lead Inspector
This 2-day course requires that the LEAD INSPECTOR Course be completed prior to enrolling in the
Risk Assessor course. A valid inspector course compleation certificate is required.
This course is Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment accredited/approved and is designed to meet the
EPA Model State Program requirements for Lead Risk Assessor. This course will present the HUD revised methods for
Lead Risk Assessment Screen and Full Risk Assessment. These are methods of on-site investigations of a residential
dwelling to discover lead based paint hazards. In addition to the course information in Lead Inspector, the course content
includes: lead risk assessment protocol; collecting background information on the property and occupants; visual inspection
and assessment; sampling for lead exposures (paint, wipe, soil and other); interpretation of sample results; over-view of
O&M program; interim controls; hazard control options; record-keeping; risk assessment report; and liability, insurance and
public relations issues. The course includes 4 hours of hands-on activities including sampling, interpretation of sampling
results, and assessment activities.
